When water becomes
part of the image.
I photographed Senegal during the rainy season, in black and white. The rain was already part of the story: a presence that changed the rhythm of the days and the way I looked at what surrounded me.
Then, after development, a flood reached many of the negatives. They became soaked and stuck to their archival sleeves. The contact left traces on the photographic material itself.
I chose not to hide those traces. They are not effects added afterwards, but a second encounter with the same element. The rainy season entered the photographs twice: first before the camera, and then into the negatives. These images hold both moments.
